Tilerdle Privacy Policy

How the standalone Tilerdle mobile app handles player and device data.

Last updated: August 17, 2026

This Privacy Policy applies to the standalone Tilerdle mobile application for iOS and Android, published by Knotwise Games ("Knotwise", "we", "us", or "our"). It does not apply to Tilerdle played at knotwise.games or to the shared Knotwise Games app; those services are covered by the Knotwise Games Privacy Policy. You can compare all product policies in our Legal Center.

Summary

The sections below are authoritative; this summary is provided for convenience.

  • You do not need an account, email address, or password to play the standalone Tilerdle app.
  • Most game data — including level progress, coins, hints, settings, and purchase-delivery records — is stored only on your device.
  • When Tilerdle starts, it creates a pseudonymous player identifier and a random display name, then synchronises that name, preset avatar, and frame to our leaderboard service. Completing a standard level sends that level's date, number, and stars to the service. Opening the ranking also sends the identifier so we can show your position and available ranking rewards.
  • Daily challenge performance — such as solve duration, hints used, and invalid merges — is currently calculated and stored on your device. It is not submitted to the leaderboard service by this version of the App.
  • Tilerdle uses Google AdMob for automatic and optional rewarded ads. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may process device identifiers, IP address, approximate location, app interactions, advertising data, crash data, performance data, and other diagnostics for advertising, measurement, and fraud prevention, subject to your available consent and device choices.
  • Apple or Google processes in-app purchases. Knotwise does not receive your full payment-card details.
  • Knotwise does not sell your personal data for money.

1. Controller and contact

Knotwise Games is responsible for the personal data that Knotwise processes through Tilerdle. Privacy questions, deletion requests, and other data-rights requests can be sent to contact@knotwise.games.

2. Data stored on your device

Tilerdle stores the following information in the app's local storage so the game can work between sessions:

  • your automatically generated random display name, selected preset avatar (stored as a numeric ID), and frame; Tilerdle does not let players upload avatar images or change the display name;
  • level, coin and hint balances, streaks, completed challenges, claimed rewards, and tutorial state;
  • music, sound, haptics, and other game preferences;
  • whether the No Ads entitlement has been delivered;
  • store transaction identifiers already used to deliver coins or No Ads, which prevent a completed purchase from being granted twice;
  • a randomly generated player identifier when a suitable platform identifier is unavailable; and
  • whether Tilerdle has already requested an operating-system app review.

If you enable Daily Reminder, Tilerdle also stores your reminder preference and whether the operating system has already been asked for notification permission. The reminder is scheduled locally on your device. Tilerdle does not send notification content or a notification-permission status to Knotwise for that feature.

This device-local information is not sent to Knotwise merely because it is stored. Some fields are sent only when you use the online leaderboard as described in Section 3. Clearing the app's data or uninstalling it may erase local progress, coins, settings, and other device-only information. Consumable coin purchases and game progress are not designed to sync between devices. A store may allow the No Ads non-consumable to be restored for the same store account.

3. Leaderboard and Daily challenge data

When Tilerdle starts, it creates or retrieves a pseudonymous player ID and synchronises the profile associated with it to a Knotwise leaderboard service. When you complete a standard level, Tilerdle also submits the level result. When you open the ranking, it sends the pseudonymous player ID with the ranking request so it can identify your own position and available ranking rewards. These requests contain:

  • a pseudonymous player ID derived one-way from a platform-provided device/app identifier, or a randomly generated local ID if that identifier is unavailable;
  • your automatically generated random display name, preset avatar selection (stored as a numeric ID), and frame;
  • for a completed standard level, the ranking date, level number, and stars earned; and
  • standard network request information, such as IP address, request time, and device or connection metadata processed by our hosting provider to deliver and secure the service.

Leaderboard visitors can see the automatically generated random display name, the preset avatar artwork represented by that numeric ID, the selected frame, rank, total stars, and number of completed levels associated with ranked entries. Players cannot upload avatar images or change the display name. We do not display the pseudonymous player ID.

The Daily challenge downloads the puzzle for the current day from our content-delivery service. This request does not include your pseudonymous player ID, profile, solve duration, hints used, or invalid merges. Those performance values are used for the on-device result display and local Daily streak only in the current version of the App.

Tilerdle has no account system. The pseudonymous player ID is used to associate leaderboard profiles, level-star results, and ranking rewards from the same installation or platform identifier; it is not an email-based account and is not used to sign you in to other Knotwise products.

4. Ads, consent, and tracking choices

Tilerdle uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK and Google AdMob to provide interstitial ads and user-requested rewarded ads. According to Google's current SDK disclosures, the SDK may automatically collect or share:

  • IP address, which may be used to estimate general location;
  • app launches, taps, ad views, and other product interactions;
  • advertising data, diagnostics such as crash data, app or SDK performance, and other diagnostic data; and
  • advertising, app-set, device, or related account identifiers where available.

Google uses this information for advertising, analytics and measurement, security, and fraud prevention. See Google's Mobile Ads SDK data disclosure, Privacy Policy, and explanation of how Google uses information from partners' apps.

Where required, Google's User Messaging Platform presents privacy choices and Tilerdle waits until Google reports that ads may be requested. On iOS, the operating system may separately ask whether you allow tracking; denying that request prevents Tilerdle from giving the Mobile Ads SDK access to Apple's advertising identifier. Depending on your location and choices, Google may serve personalised, non-personalised, limited, or technical-delivery ads. Refusing personalised advertising does not prevent you from playing.

The No Ads purchase disables Tilerdle's automatic interstitial ads. If you later choose to watch a rewarded ad for an in-game benefit, that request still uses Google AdMob.

Knotwise does not currently embed a separate Google Analytics or Firebase Analytics SDK in the standalone Tilerdle app.

5. Purchases

In-app purchases are offered through Apple's App Store or Google Play. The store processes your store account, payment method, billing address, tax information, and the payment itself under its own privacy terms. Tilerdle receives product and transaction information from the operating system — such as product ID, purchase status, transaction ID or purchase token, and whether a purchase has been acknowledged — so it can deliver coins or No Ads and safely reconcile unfinished purchases.

Purchase-delivery identifiers are stored locally as described in Section 2 and are not sent to the Knotwise leaderboard. Apple and Google may provide Knotwise with transaction, sales, settlement, refund, or diagnostic records through their developer consoles. Knotwise does not receive your full card number or card security code. Review the Apple Privacy Policy or Google Privacy Policy for the store you use.

6. How we use data

We use the information described above to:

  • deliver the Daily puzzle and maintain local Daily streaks;
  • calculate daily level-star totals, display rankings, and keep a player's ranked results;
  • maintain the automatically generated public display name and the preset avatar and frame you select for the leaderboard;
  • deliver game content and troubleshoot availability;
  • show and measure ads, honour consent signals, and prevent advertising fraud;
  • deliver, restore where supported, and troubleshoot in-app purchases;
  • protect Tilerdle, its players, and our services from abuse, automated play, tampering, and security threats;
  • answer support and privacy requests; and
  • comply with legal, accounting, tax, and store-platform obligations.

Where UK or EU data-protection law applies, our legal bases are performance of a contract for requested gameplay and purchases; legitimate interests in providing and protecting the leaderboard and improving service reliability; consent for personalised advertising or tracking where required; and compliance with legal obligations for records we must keep. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests or withdraw consent as described in Section 10.

7. Service providers and disclosures

We use the following categories of recipients:

  • Cloudflare — content delivery, serverless hosting, security, and D1 database storage for pseudonymous leaderboard profiles, level-star results, rankings, and reward claims. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
  • Google AdMob and the Google Mobile Ads SDK — advertising, consent management, measurement, diagnostics, and fraud prevention.
  • Apple and Google — app distribution, in-app purchase processing, purchase restoration, refunds, and store reporting.
  • Email providers — delivery and storage of messages if you contact us.

We may also disclose information when required by law; to protect the rights, safety, and security of Knotwise, players, or others; to investigate abuse or fraud; or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy and applicable law.

We do not sell personal data for money. Some laws use broader definitions of "sale", "sharing", or "targeted advertising" that may cover personalised advertising by Google. Where applicable, use the privacy choices presented by Google, your iOS tracking choice, your Android advertising controls, or contact us to exercise an available opt-out right.

8. Retention and deletion

  • Device-local data remains until you clear Tilerdle's app data, uninstall the app, or the operating system removes it. Store records may remain with Apple or Google under their own retention rules.
  • Leaderboard profiles, daily level-star results, rankings, and reward claims are retained while reasonably needed to operate historical standings, preserve leaderboard integrity, prevent abuse, or resolve disputes. You may ask us to delete or de-identify records associated with your pseudonymous player ID.
  • Support messages and business records are retained as needed to answer the request and satisfy legitimate legal, tax, accounting, security, or dispute-resolution requirements.
  • Advertising and hosting data is retained by Google and Cloudflare under their terms, configured retention periods, and applicable law.

To request deletion of server-side Tilerdle data, email contact@knotwise.games and identify the request as relating to the standalone Tilerdle app. Because Tilerdle has no account or verified email address, we may ask for the current display name, platform, a recent ranking date or completed level, or other information needed to locate the pseudonymous record and avoid deleting another player's data. We will explain if we cannot reliably match a record.

9. Security and international transfers

Tilerdle sends leaderboard and purchase-service requests over encrypted HTTPS connections. We use access controls and provider security features appropriate to the nature of the information. Device-local data is also subject to the protections and backup settings of your device and operating system. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Knotwise and its providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on recognised safeguards for international transfers, such as adequacy decisions, contractual protections, or provider data-transfer mechanisms.

10. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal data, and to complain to a data-protection authority. You may also:

  • edit the preset avatar selection and frame from Tilerdle's profile screen; the display name is automatically generated and cannot be changed;
  • clear device-local information using your operating system's app-data controls or by uninstalling the app;
  • change iOS tracking permission or Android advertising-ID choices in device settings;
  • use privacy choices made available through Google's consent flow; and
  • contact us to request access to or deletion of leaderboard data.

We may need information sufficient to verify that a request concerns your pseudonymous record. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.

11. Children

Tilerdle is a general-audience puzzle game and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from a child under 13, or below the higher minimum age applicable where the child lives, without legally valid permission. If you believe a child has submitted personal data through Tilerdle, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy when Tilerdle's features, providers, or legal obligations change. We will update the date above and provide additional notice in the app or store listing when a change is material and notice is required.

13. Contact

Questions, complaints, and data-rights requests relating to the standalone Tilerdle app should be sent to:
