Playing day to day
What can I play without paying?
Today's puzzle on every game is free, with no account needed — and the last 7 days stay open to replay too. Boards older than that sit in the archive, which is what a subscription opens up.
When does each day's puzzle go live?
At midnight New York time (US Eastern), seven days a week. The site always serves the puzzle for the current Eastern date, so if it's still Sunday in New York that's the board you'll get, even when your own clock has already rolled into Monday.
How long will a puzzle take me?
Usually somewhere between five and fifteen minutes. Boards get a little meatier toward the weekend, and the very oldest archive entries are shorter early pilots that go quickly.
Will I ever have to guess?
No. Every board is built to be worked out by reasoning, not luck — between the clues and the board's own feedback as you go, you're pointed toward the answer rather than left to guess. If a puzzle ever feels like it's asking for a blind guess, send us the date and we'll take a look. There's a longer write-up on the no-guessing page.
Subscriptions & the archive
What does a subscription open up?
The full archive for every game on the site — every past board, replayable as often as you like — and it rolls in any new game we launch later at no extra charge.
Should I pick the monthly or the annual plan?
They unlock exactly the same thing; the only difference is how often you're billed. Paying for a year up front works out cheaper per month than renewing month to month. The current figures are on the pricing page.
Does it keep charging me on its own?
Yes — a plan renews at the end of each cycle so your access never lapses. You can turn renewal off whenever you want from your account, and the next charge simply won't run.
What happens if I stop subscribing?
You keep full access through the cycle you've already paid for, and then the account settles back to the free daily tier. We don't refund the unused part of a cycle.
Accounts, devices & data
Do I have to sign up to play?
Not for the daily puzzle — that's open to anyone. An account only matters once you want the archive, want your progress to follow you between devices, or want it back after clearing your browser.
Will my progress move between my phone and my laptop?
Yes, as long as you're signed in: finished and in-progress boards are tied to your account. Play signed out and that progress stays in the one browser you used.
Is there an app, or do I just use my browser?
There's nothing to download — the site is built to play well on a phone. If you'd like a one-tap icon, add Knotwise to your home screen from your browser's share menu; it then opens full-screen, without the address bar and toolbars.
How do I delete my account and the data behind it?
Signed in, your profile page has a Delete my account button that closes the account and clears the data we hold. Or email contact@knotwise.games from your account address and we'll do it for you. Either way, the payment records we're legally required to keep for tax stay with Stripe.
Where can I read the privacy and cookie terms?
On the Privacy and Cookies pages. The short version: we keep only what's needed to run accounts and take payment, analytics is opt-in, and we never sell or trade your data.
