Knotwise is a small, independent studio of two — working remotely, shipping one daily logic puzzle at a time. Puzzle authorship and engineering ship publicly under Shawn; visual design ships from a longtime collaborator who prefers to stay private.

Shawn Liu

Shawn Liu is the founder of Knotwise Games and the designer of every Tilerdle theme and every Alibi case the site ships. He holds a degree in computer science and spent years as a Senior Frontend Engineer at scale: at Alibaba on the Alipay payments-technology team, then at ByteDance on Lark (Feishu), where he worked on the OKR system across web, H5, and mini-program surfaces. Knotwise is his independent project — daily logic puzzles built around a single hard constraint: every puzzle must be solvable by reasoning, never by guessing. Every puzzle clears a solver-based verification step before it ships.

Quiet collaborator

A designer who prefers privacy

Shawn works with a longtime design partner who prefers to stay out of public posts. The visual identity of Knotwise — board layouts, tile illustrations, the casebook aesthetic, the typography you're reading right now — is largely theirs. They just don't sign the work.
